So, what is paprika?
Paprika is a spice made from the dried and ground fruits of Capsicum annuum, a variety of pepper plant. To produce it, ripe sweet or hot peppers are harvested, dried using controlled heat or direct sunlight, and pulverized into a fine powder. Food manufacturers frequently include paprika in savory snacks, seasoning rubs, soups, salad dressings, prepared meals, and plant-based meat alternatives, where it serves as both a flavoring agent and a natural red-orange food coloring.
paprika is vegan because it is derived entirely from a plant source. The standard manufacturing process relies strictly on mechanical harvesting, dehydration, and milling, without the use of animal tissues or animal-derived processing aids. In some commercial formulations, paprika may be mixed with small amounts of vegetable oil to retain color or mineral-based anti-caking agents to prevent clumping, neither of which involves animal components. Standard paprika consistently contains no animal byproducts and is entirely suitable for a vegan diet.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
