So, what is pea starch?
Pea starch is a versatile ingredient extracted from peas, a legume known for its high protein content. It is a white, odorless, and tasteless powder that is commonly used as a thickener, binder, and stabilizer in the food industry. Pea starch is gluten-free, non-GMO, and hypoallergenic, making it an excellent alternative to wheat or corn starch for those with dietary restrictions. It has a high viscosity, which means that it can absorb large amounts of water and create a smooth texture in food products such as soups, sauces, and baked goods. Additionally, pea starch is sustainable and eco-friendly, as it is made from a renewable crop that requires less water and fertilizer than other starch sources.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
