So, what is potassium tallowate?
Potassium tallowate is a common ingredient used in the manufacturing of soaps, detergents, and personal care products. It is derived from the fat of animals, usually cattle, and is composed of potassium salts of fatty acids. Potassium tallowate acts as a surfactant, helping to remove dirt and oil from surfaces, and also has emulsifying properties, allowing it to mix oil and water-based ingredients. While potassium tallowate is an effective ingredient, its use has become controversial due to animal welfare and environmental concerns surrounding the production and disposal of animal fats.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
