So, what is propyl gallate e310?

Propyl gallate E310 is an antioxidant food additive used to prevent oils and fats from oxidizing and spoiling. It is produced through the esterification of gallic acid and propanol. Gallic acid is naturally sourced from plant tannins found in oak bark, tara pods, and nutgalls, while propanol is produced synthetically from petrochemical sources or microbial fermentation. Manufacturers commonly add propyl gallate to vegetable oils, margarine, fried snack foods, chewing gum, breakfast cereals, and dehydrated potato flakes to extend shelf life.

This ingredient is vegan because it is derived exclusively from plant materials and synthetic chemical processes. Animal-derived ingredients, byproducts, and processing agents are not used at any stage of its synthesis. Therefore, foods containing propyl gallate E310 are suitable for individuals following a vegan diet.
