So, what is squalene/squalane?
Squalene/Squalane is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon that is found in many plants and animals, including humans. It is commonly used in the food industry as a natural antioxidant, emollient, and moisturizer. Squalene/Squalane is extracted from various plant sources such as olives, wheat germ, and rice bran. It is also found in the livers of deep-sea sharks. This ingredient is highly valued in the cosmetic industry due to its ability to hydrate and protect the skin, making it a popular addition to moisturizers, serums, and other skincare products. Squalene/Squalane is also used in vaccines and as a carrier oil for pharmaceuticals.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
