So, what is stearalkonium bentonite?
Stearalkonium bentonite is a type of clay that is commonly used as a thickening agent and stabilizer in cosmetics and personal care products. It is made by chemically modifying natural bentonite clay with a quaternary ammonium compound, stearalkonium chloride. This modification improves the clay's ability to suspend ingredients and create a smooth texture in products such as lotions, creams, and deodorants. Stearalkonium bentonite also helps to enhance the spreadability and adhesion of products on the skin, making it a popular ingredient in many cosmetic formulations. Despite its name, stearalkonium bentonite is not a food ingredient and should not be consumed.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
