So, what is sorbitan dioleate?
Sorbitan dioleate is a food ingredient that is commonly used as an emulsifier, meaning it helps to blend ingredients that would otherwise separate. It is derived from sorbitol, a sugar alcohol that can be found in fruits and berries, and oleic acid, a type of unsaturated fatty acid. Sorbitan dioleate is often used in baked goods, dairy products, and salad dressings to create a smooth and creamy texture. It is also used in some personal care products as a surfactant, helping to evenly distribute other ingredients in creams and lotions. Despite its name, sorbitan dioleate is a safe and non-toxic ingredient that has been approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
