So, what is tartaric acid?
Tartaric acid is a naturally occurring organic acid found in many fruits, including grapes, bananas, and tamarinds. It is commonly used as a food ingredient to add a sour and tangy taste to various products, such as fruit juices, candies, and soft drinks. Tartaric acid is also used in the wine industry as a component of the fermentation process, helping to stabilize the pH level and prevent bacterial growth. In addition, it is a key ingredient in cream of tartar, a common baking ingredient that helps to stabilize egg whites and create a smoother texture in baked goods. Tartaric acid is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is considered a safe and effective food additive.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
