So, what is ti?

Ti refers to the ti plant, Cordyline fruticosa, a tropical evergreen in the asparagus family native to the Pacific islands and Southeast Asia. On ingredient labels, this entry may also represent an optical character recognition error, a truncation of titanium dioxide, or a phonetic spelling of tea. When used legitimately, ti comes from the harvested leaves or starchy rhizomes of the cultivated plant. The leaves are primarily used as culinary wraps for steaming foods, while dried leaf fragments or root extracts occasionally appear in specialty teas, herbal beverages, and traditional Polynesian foods.

The verdict is vegan because authentic ti is entirely plant-based, and potential label misreadings such as titanium dioxide are derived from mined minerals or synthetic processes. No animal tissues, dairy, insects, or animal-derived processing aids are used in harvesting the ti plant, extracting its components, or producing mineral colorants.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like ti?

We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
