So, what is valkopippuri?
Valkopippuri, also known as white pepper, is a spice made from the dried berries of the Piper nigrum plant. Unlike black pepper, which is made from the same plant but with the outer layer intact, valkopippuri is made by removing the outer layer through a process called retting. This results in a milder and less pungent flavor compared to black pepper, making it ideal for use in light-colored dishes where the appearance of black specks would be undesirable. In addition to its culinary uses, valkopippuri has also been used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory properties.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
