So, what is white petrolatum?
White petrolatum is a semisolid mixture of hydrocarbons derived from petroleum. It is a common ingredient in a wide range of products such as ointments, lotions, creams, and cosmetics due to its excellent skin protection and moisturizing properties. It works as a barrier that helps to prevent moisture loss from the skin, while also shielding it from external irritants. White petrolatum is odorless, colorless, and tasteless, making it ideal for use in various personal care products. It is also known for its emollient properties, which help to soothe dry and cracked skin. Despite being derived from petroleum, it is considered safe for topical use in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
