So, what is yellow5?
Yellow 5, also known as Tartrazine, is a synthetic food coloring commonly used to give foods a bright yellow hue. It is a water-soluble, azo dye that is derived from coal tar. Yellow 5 is commonly found in processed foods such as baked goods, candies, cereals, and soft drinks, and is also used in cosmetics, drugs, and textiles. While approved by the FDA, some studies have suggested that Tartrazine may cause hyperactivity in children, and may also trigger asthma and other allergic reactions in some individuals. As with all food additives, it is important to consume Yellow 5 in moderation and to be aware of any potential sensitivities.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
