So, what is beras?
Beras, also known as white rice, is a staple food ingredient in many Asian countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. It's derived from the paddy plant, which is processed to remove its outer husk, bran, and germ layers. The resulting grain is then polished to create the shiny, white appearance of beras. This versatile ingredient can be cooked into a fluffy, steaming bowl of rice or used as the main component in dishes such as sushi, fried rice, and congee. Despite criticism for its high glycemic index, beras remains a beloved and essential part of many traditional cuisines.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
