So, what is candelilla-wachs?
Candelilla-wachs, also known as candelilla wax, is a plant-based wax derived from the leaves of the candelilla shrub, native to semi-arid areas in Mexico and the southwestern United States. The wax is extracted through boiling the leaves and stems of the shrub, then refining the resulting mixture to produce a yellowish-brown, hard wax. Due to its high melting point and water-resistant properties, candelilla-wachs is often used in the cosmetic industry as a natural alternative to synthetic waxes in products such as lip balms, lotions, and hair styling products. It is also commonly used in the production of food products, including chewing gum, candy, and chocolate, as a vegan-friendly coating or glazing agent.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
