So, what is chow mein noodles?

Chow mein noodles are wheat-based noodles named after the Cantonese phrase for stir-fried noodles. On packaged food labels, this term typically refers to pre-cooked, steamed, or deep-fried noodle nests found in stir-fry meal kits, prepared frozen entrees, and canned Asian-style dishes. They are manufactured by mixing wheat flour with water, salt, and sometimes an alkaline agent to create dough, which is then rolled, cut into thin strips, and steamed or fried in oil.

chow mein noodles is possibly vegan because they can be made from either plant or animal sources. While the primary components are plant-derived grains and vegetable oils, some formulations include whole eggs or egg whites to improve the dough elasticity, color, and firmness. Ingredient labels often do not clarify the dough components unless eggs are explicitly identified in the ingredient text or in an allergen statement. Looking for a certified vegan label on the package or contacting the manufacturer directly can confirm whether a specific brand uses eggs.
