So, what is membrillos?

Membrillos are a type of fruit that is native to Southwest Asia and has been cultivated for thousands of years. These small, yellow fruits are high in pectin, making them an excellent choice for making jams, jellies and other preserves. They have a tart flavor when raw, but become sweet and floral when cooked. Membrillos are often used in traditional Spanish and Latin American desserts, such as quince paste and membrillo-filled pastries known as "empanadas de membrillo." In addition to their culinary uses, membrillos are also valued for their high vitamin C content and antioxidant properties.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like membrillos?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
