So, what is refined vegetable oils?
Refined vegetable oils are highly processed oils extracted from various plant sources such as soybeans, canola, palm, sunflower, and corn. They are commonly used in cooking and food production due to their neutral flavor, high smoke point, and long shelf life. The refining process involves removing impurities, including color, odor, and flavor, through techniques such as bleaching, deodorizing, and filtering. While these oils may be low in saturated fat and high in unsaturated fat, some research suggests that excessive consumption may have negative health effects. As such, moderation and awareness of the type and source of refined vegetable oils used is important for a healthy diet.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
