So, what is agar?
Agar is a natural gelling agent derived from seaweed, commonly used in Asian cuisine and vegan recipes as a substitute for gelatin. It's rich in fiber and low in calories, making it a healthy alternative to other thickening agents. Agar has a neutral taste and can be easily dissolved in hot water to create a firm, jelly-like texture. It's a versatile ingredient that can be used in sweet or savory dishes, from fruit jellies to vegan cheese. Agar is also popular in molecular gastronomy and food science, where it's used to create unique textures and presentations.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
