So, what is back fat?
Back fat, also known as pork fatback or just fatback, is a versatile and flavorful ingredient commonly used in cooking and baking. It is a layer of fat found on the back of a pig, and is prized for its rich, creamy texture and ability to enhance the taste of dishes. Back fat can be rendered into lard, used to add moisture and flavor to meats, incorporated into pastries for flakiness, or even eaten as a standalone snack. While it may not be the healthiest ingredient, its unique flavor and texture make it a beloved ingredient in many cuisines around the world.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
