So, what is benzoate de sodium?
Sodium benzoate is a white, odorless crystalline powder that is widely used as a food preservative. It is a salt of benzoic acid and is found naturally in many fruits and vegetables. Sodium benzoate is commonly used to preserve acidic foods such as juices, soft drinks, and pickles. It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi, extending the shelf life of the food product. Although considered safe by regulatory agencies, some studies have raised concerns about its potential health effects when consumed in large amounts. Sodium benzoate is also used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and other industrial applications.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
