So, what is benzyl benzoate?
Benzyl benzoate is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a faint sweet aroma. It is an ester of benzyl alcohol and benzoic acid, commonly used as a solvent for various chemical compounds and as a fixative in perfumes. In the food industry, it is primarily used as a flavoring agent or fragrance enhancer. Benzyl benzoate also has medicinal properties and is used in topical medications as an antiparasitic agent to treat scabies and lice. However, it can be toxic if ingested or absorbed in large amounts through the skin.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
