So, what is benzoesäure?

Benzoesäure, also known as benzoic acid, is a white crystalline organic compound commonly used as a food preservative due to its antimicrobial properties. It is naturally found in fruits such as cranberries, plums, and cinnamon, as well as in some dairy products. Benzoesäure is also used as a flavoring agent and is a common ingredient in soft drinks, fruit juices, and jams. Its acidic properties also make it useful in the production of certain pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and plastics. However, excessive consumption of benzoesäure has been linked to adverse health effects such as asthma, allergic reactions, and hyperactivity.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like benzoesäure?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
