So, what is bisulfites de sodium?
Sodium bisulfite is a food preservative commonly used to prevent discoloration and spoilage in a variety of foods, including wine, beer, dried fruits, and processed meats. It works by releasing sulfur dioxide, which inhibits the growth of bacteria, yeasts, and molds. While generally recognized as safe by regulatory agencies, sodium bisulfite can cause allergic reactions in some individuals. As a result, its use in food products is highly regulated, and it must be listed on ingredient labels in accordance with local labeling laws.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
