So, what is black salt?
Black salt, also known as Kala Namak, is a type of rock salt that has a distinct sulfurous aroma and a mildly salty taste. Originating in the Himalayan regions of Nepal, India, and Pakistan, black salt is a popular ingredient in South Asian cuisine, particularly in vegan and vegetarian dishes. Its unique flavor comes from its high concentration of sulfur compounds, which gives it a pungent and eggy taste that is often used to mimic the flavor of eggs in vegan dishes. Black salt is also believed to have various health benefits, such as aiding digestion and improving skin health.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
