So, what is carbonate de ammonium?
Carbonate de ammonium, also known as ammonium carbonate, is a white, crystalline powder with a strong odor of ammonia. It is a leavening agent commonly used in baking and pastry making, as it releases carbon dioxide gas when heated, causing dough or batter to rise. It is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of baked goods, such as cookies, cakes, and breads. However, due to its strong odor and the presence of ammonia, it is not recommended for use in delicate baked goods, such as meringues or angel food cakes. Ammonium carbonate is also used as a food additive to enhance the flavor of certain foods, such as gingerbread and other spiced cookies.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
