So, what is carbonate de sodium?
Carbonate de sodium, also known as sodium carbonate, is a white, odorless powder with the chemical formula Na2CO3. It is commonly used as a food ingredient as a leavening agent, pH regulator, and a firming agent in various baked goods, snacks, and other processed foods. Sodium carbonate is also used in the production of glass, soaps, and detergents. It is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA and is a commonly used food additive worldwide. Sodium carbonate can be derived from natural sources such as trona ore or synthetic sources, such as the Solvay process.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
