So, what is castor?
Castor is a common name for the seeds of the castor plant, scientifically known as Ricinus communis. These seeds are a popular food ingredient, known for their distinctive taste and numerous health benefits. Castor seeds are rich in healthy fats and protein, making them a popular choice for plant-based diets. They also contain a unique compound called ricinoleic acid, which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. In addition to its culinary uses, castor oil is commonly used in skincare and haircare products, due to its moisturizing and nourishing properties. However, it's important to note that castor seeds also contain a toxic compound called ricin, so they should be prepared carefully and consumed in moderation.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
