So, what is chia?
Chia seeds are tiny black and white seeds that come from the Salvia hispanica plant. They were once a staple food of the Aztecs and Mayans and have recently gained popularity as a superfood due to their high nutrient content. Chia seeds are a great source of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and various micronutrients. They can be easily incorporated into smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, and other dishes. When soaked in liquid, chia seeds form a gel-like substance that can be used as an egg replacement in vegan baking. Chia seeds are also gluten-free and can be used as a substitute for breadcrumbs in recipes.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
