So, what is chicken heart?
Chicken heart is an organ meat harvested from the domestic chicken during the poultry slaughter and butchering process. Classified culinarily as offal or giblets, it consists of the muscular organ responsible for pumping blood through the bird's circulatory system. The hearts are typically cleaned, chilled, or frozen before being distributed to consumers and food manufacturers. Chicken heart appears primarily in specialty meat dishes, poultry stocks, gravies, and stews. It is also widely used as a primary protein ingredient in commercial wet and dry pet foods, as well as in freeze-dried animal treats.
This ingredient is not vegan because it is directly sourced from an animal. Because chicken heart is an internal organ that requires the slaughter of poultry to harvest, products containing it consist of animal tissue and are incompatible with a vegan diet.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
