So, what is ci15880?
CI 15880 is a synthetic red pigment listed under the Color Index international system, commonly known in the United States as D&C Red No. 34. It is an azo dye produced synthetically through the chemical coupling of petroleum-derived aromatic compounds, which are subsequently precipitated with calcium salts to create an insoluble lake colorant. This ingredient is most frequently used in personal care and cosmetic items such as nail polishes, lipsticks, and blushes, though it also appears in oral hygiene products and pharmaceutical tablet coatings.
This ingredient is classified as vegan because it is manufactured entirely from petrochemical and mineral origins. The industrial synthesis relies strictly on synthetic organic chemicals, and no animal tissues, animal fats, or animal-derived processing aids are used at any stage of its production. As a result, products listing CI 15880 are suitable for individuals adhering to a vegan lifestyle.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
