So, what is e404?
E404 is a food additive that belongs to the category of thickeners and stabilizers. Its scientific name is sodium alginic acid and it is derived from brown seaweed. E404 is widely used in the food industry due to its ability to thicken and stabilize food products, such as ice cream, pudding, and jelly. It is also used as a binding agent in meat products and as a coating for fruits and vegetables to preserve their texture and appearance. E404 is considered safe for consumption by regulatory authorities, but excessive consumption may cause digestive issues.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
