So, what is gula?
Gula, also known as palm sugar, is a traditional sweetener commonly used in Southeast Asian cuisine. Made from the sap of various species of palm trees, gula is a natural and unrefined sweetener that has a unique, complex flavor profile with notes of caramel and butterscotch. It has a deep brown color and a texture that is slightly grainy or crystallized, adding a subtle crunch to dishes. Gula is commonly used in desserts, curries, and marinades, and is a healthier alternative to processed sugars due to its lower glycemic index and higher nutrient content.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
