So, what is hydrogenated oil?
Hydrogenated oil is a type of oil that has undergone a process called hydrogenation, where hydrogen gas is added to liquid vegetable oil to make it solid at room temperature. This results in a longer shelf life and a more stable texture for products like baked goods, margarine, and fried foods. However, this process also creates trans fats, which are linked to numerous health problems such as heart disease and inflammation. As a result, many food manufacturers have shifted towards using healthier alternatives to hydrogenated oils.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
