So, what is hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose?
Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) is a multifunctional food ingredient that is commonly used as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier in various food products. It is a white, odorless, and tasteless powder that is soluble in water, ethanol, and other polar solvents. HPMC is derived from cellulose, a natural polymer found in plants, and is chemically modified to improve its properties. It is widely used in the food industry to improve the texture, consistency, and shelf-life of food products such as sauces, soups, and baked goods. HPMC is also commonly used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and personal care products due to its non-toxicity and biocompatibility.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
