So, what is karragenan?
Karrageenan is a natural food ingredient extracted from red seaweed, commonly found in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. It is commonly used in the food industry as a thickening and stabilizing agent, with a wide range of applications in dairy products, processed meats, and vegan alternatives. Karrageenan is known for its ability to create a smooth texture in foods, as well as its ability to improve the shelf life and appearance of products. Despite some controversy over its safety, karrageenan is generally recognized as safe by regulatory agencies worldwide and is widely used in the food industry.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
