So, what is kvasac?

Kvasac is a traditional ingredient used in baking and brewing, popular in Central and Eastern Europe. Also known as yeast, it is a type of fungus that ferments sugars to create carbon dioxide, which causes dough to rise and gives bread its airy texture. Kvasac comes in two forms: fresh and dried. Fresh kvasac is a soft, moist block that requires refrigeration and has a shorter shelf life. Dried kvasac is a granulated powder that can be stored at room temperature for a longer time. Kvasac is a versatile ingredient used in many bread, pastry, and beer recipes, giving them their distinctive taste and texture.
