So, what is λακτάση?

Lactase, also known as λακτάση in Greek, is a naturally occurring enzyme that breaks down lactose, the sugar found in milk and other dairy products. This enzyme is essential for individuals who have lactose intolerance, as it helps to digest lactose and prevent uncomfortable symptoms such as bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Lactase is produced by the cells lining the small intestine, but some people may not produce enough lactase on their own, leading to lactose intolerance. Fortunately, lactase supplements are available to aid in the digestion of dairy products and improve quality of life for those with lactose intolerance.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like λακτάση?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
