So, what is modified wheat starch?
Modified wheat starch is a food ingredient derived from wheat flour. It is a white, odorless, and tasteless powder that is commonly used as a thickening and stabilizing agent in food production. The modification process involves treating the wheat starch with various chemicals, enzymes, or physical processes to alter its molecular structure, enhancing its functionality and versatility in food applications. Modified wheat starch is commonly found in a variety of food products, such as baked goods, sauces, soups, and confectioneries, to improve texture, consistency, and shelf life. As a gluten-containing ingredient, modified wheat starch may not be suitable for individuals with celiac disease or gluten intolerance.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
