So, what is octanoate?
Octanoate, also known as caprylate, is a food ingredient derived from caprylic acid, a medium-chain fatty acid found in coconut oil and palm kernel oil. Octanoate is a versatile substance that can be used as a flavoring agent, emulsifier, and preservative in various food products. Its unique chemical structure allows it to dissolve in both water and oil, making it useful in a wide range of food applications. Octanoate has a slightly sweet, buttery flavor and can be found in many processed foods such as dairy products, baked goods, and snacks. However, excessive consumption of octanoate may lead to gastrointestinal discomfort, and it is therefore important to use it in moderation.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
