So, what is oleo?
Oleo is a versatile food ingredient commonly used in baking and cooking. Also known as margarine or spread, it is a substitute for butter made from vegetable oils, such as soybean, palm, or sunflower oil. Oleo has a similar taste and texture to butter but is often lower in saturated fat, making it a popular choice for health-conscious consumers. It is also used in many vegan and vegetarian recipes as a dairy-free alternative. Whether used for spreading on toast, cooking a delicious meal, or making a flaky pie crust, oleo adds a rich, creamy flavor to any dish.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
