So, what is pálmaolaj?
Palm oil, or "pálmaolaj" in Hungarian, is a widely-used vegetable oil that is extracted from the fruit of the oil palm tree. This versatile ingredient is prized by food manufacturers for its high smoke point and neutral flavor, making it a popular choice for frying and baking applications. In addition, palm oil contains high levels of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, as well as antioxidants, which make it a healthier option compared to other oils. However, the production of palm oil has been linked to deforestation, habitat destruction, and human rights abuses, making it a controversial ingredient in the food industry.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
