So, what is salottisipuli?

Salottisipuli, also known as shallot, is a versatile culinary ingredient that belongs to the onion family. It has a distinctive flavor that is more delicate and sweeter than regular onions. The bulbs are small and elongated, with a papery golden-brown skin and white/purple flesh. They can be used raw or cooked in various dishes, such as dressings, sauces, soups, stews, and sautés, to add depth and complexity to flavors. Salottisipuli is also popular in French cuisine, where it's often caramelized and used in classic dishes like Coq au Vin and Boeuf Bourguignon.
