So, what is satsuma mandarin?
Satsuma mandarin is a specific variety of seedless, easy-peeling citrus fruit scientifically classified as Citrus unshiu, originally named after the historical Satsuma Province in Japan. It grows on flowering citrus trees cultivated in warm and subtropical regions worldwide. Food processors prepare the harvested fruit by peeling, segmenting, or pressing it into juices, concentrates, and purees. This ingredient frequently appears in canned fruit cups, packaged fruit salads, marmalades, fruit-flavored beverages, sorbets, and baked desserts.
satsuma mandarin is vegan because it is an agricultural ingredient of entirely plant origin. The fruit develops naturally on trees and contains no animal tissue, animal byproducts, or animal-derived inputs. Standard harvesting and commercial processing methods for citrus fruits do not involve animal sources. Because satsuma mandarin is completely botanical, it satisfies all vegan dietary standards.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
