So, what is smetana?
Smetana is a tangy and rich dairy product that originated in Eastern Europe. It is similar to sour cream, but has a thicker consistency and a more pronounced sour taste. Made from heavy cream that is cultured with lactic acid bacteria, smetana is a versatile ingredient used in a variety of traditional dishes, such as borscht and pierogi. Its creamy texture and distinctive flavor also make it a popular topping for baked potatoes, blini, and soups. Whether used as a condiment or as a key ingredient in a recipe, smetana adds a deliciously tangy and creamy dimension to any dish.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
