So, what is sodium a pyrophosphate?
Sodium acid pyrophosphate (SAPP) is a white, odorless powder that is commonly used in the food industry as a leavening agent. It is a combination of sodium and pyrophosphate, which work together to produce carbon dioxide gas when exposed to moisture and heat. This gas helps baked goods rise and gives them a light, fluffy texture. SAPP is also used as an emulsifier, stabilizer, and sequestrant in various processed foods, such as meat products, dairy products, and canned goods. Although SAPP is generally recognized as safe by the FDA, excessive consumption may lead to adverse health effects.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
