So, what is sodium palmitate?
Sodium palmitate is a type of sodium salt derived from palmitic acid, a saturated fatty acid found in many natural sources such as palm oil and animal fats. This white, odorless powder is commonly used in the food industry as a food additive and emulsifier. It helps improve the texture and stability of various food products such as baked goods, chocolates, and margarines. Additionally, sodium palmitate is used in the cosmetic industry as an emulsifier and surfactant due to its ability to mix oil and water-based ingredients. Despite its widespread use, some studies suggest that excessive consumption of sodium palmitate may have negative health effects.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
