So, what is солод?

Солод, also known as malt in English, is a key ingredient in the production of beer and other fermented beverages. It is made by soaking and sprouting cereal grains, such as barley or wheat, before drying and roasting them. This process triggers the release of enzymes that break down the grain's starches into fermentable sugars, which are essential for the production of alcohol. The resulting malt also contributes a distinct flavor and aroma to the finished product, and can be used in various forms, such as malted barley flour or syrup. In addition to its role in brewing, солод is also used in baking and confectionery to add a rich, nutty flavor and color to baked goods.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like солод?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
