So, what is sorbitan peroleate?
Sorbitan peroleate is a synthetic compound commonly used as a food emulsifier and stabilizer. It is a derivative of sorbitol, a sugar alcohol, and oleic acid, a fatty acid found in many vegetable and animal fats. Sorbitan peroleate is often added to processed foods such as baked goods, margarine, and salad dressings to improve their texture, appearance, and shelf life. It helps to prevent oil and water from separating and can also enhance the smoothness and creaminess of products. Despite its widespread use, sorbitan peroleate has been deemed safe by regulatory authorities and is generally considered a low-risk ingredient.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
