So, what is specerij?

A "specerij" is a Dutch word that refers to a spice or seasoning used in cooking to enhance the flavor, aroma, and color of food. These fragrant ingredients are derived from the seeds, fruits, roots, or bark of various plants, and can be used fresh, dried, or powdered. Some popular specerijen include cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, cardamom, coriander, and cumin, which are used in a wide range of cuisines from around the world. Adding specerijen to your dishes not only makes them more delicious, but also adds a range of health benefits, such as improved digestion, increased metabolism, and reduced inflammation.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like specerij?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
