So, what is humectants?
Humectants are food ingredients that are commonly used to help maintain the moisture content of a variety of food products. They work by attracting water molecules and holding onto them, preventing the food from drying out or becoming stale. Humectants are often added to baked goods, confectionery products, and processed meats, as these items are particularly prone to moisture loss. Common humectants used in food production include glycerin, sorbitol, and propylene glycol. While humectants are generally recognized as safe by regulatory agencies, excessive use of these ingredients can affect the texture and taste of the final product.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
